KIWANIS HONORS WEST GEAUGA HIGH
SCHOOL STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
Karen Kruzer
December, 2009.
Karen is in the 12th Grade and has had many
accomplishments.
Karen is an active member of NHS, President of Interact, VP of Students
for Change, Biology Lab Assistant and Key Club. Karen's community
services include Big Brother, Big Sisters, Hospice, volunteer creating
communication books for stroke patients at Metrohealth, and the
Cleveland Clinic Safety Fair. Karen was a peer mentor and science
intern in the Cleveland Clinic Science Internship Program, and she was
also involved in the Research Fellowship Program at Cleveland
Clinic.
Mary loves whitewater rafting, skydiving and skiing. Karen's
Honors/Awards include the Intel International Science and Engineering
(4th place in Medicine & Health, Reno, NV), National Junior
Delegate-N.E. Ohio Science & Engineering Fair (Grand Prize winner),
and Lean/Six Sigma Business Conference in Orlando, FL. Karen is
presently exploring Case Western University, Northwestern University,
John Hopkins University and other research universities to major
in
medical specialties such as Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology.
Spencer Kershaw November,
2009.
Spencer is in the 12th grade and has had many
accomplishments.
Spencer is an active member of the Cross Country Team, Tennis Team,
Interact, Suicide Prevention, and the NHS Marching Band.
Spencer's
community services include service projects through Boy Scouts, Eagle
Scouts, services for the Geauga County Home, services through Interact,
and mission trips to Canada, Mexico and Atlanta. Spencer has also
been
involved in his Church Youth Group, and has been honored by the Geauga
County Commissioners for an Eagle Scout Project for restoring the
Geauga County Home Cemetery (partially funded by Kiwanis).
Spencer's
Honors/Awards include Honor Roll, Eagle Scouts, Cross Country Letters
(team captain) and Marching Band Squad Leader. Spencer plans on
attending Grove City University, majoring in Business.
Mary Dolphin
October, 2009.
Mary is in the 12th Grade and has had many
accomplishments. Mary is an active member in Student Couneil (4
yrs.), Suicide Prevention, Blood Drive Chairman, and Senior Class
Representative for Student Council. Mary's community services
include volunteer work for Littlest Heroes, St. Anselm's Women's Guild,
and the Diabetes Swim-a-thon. Mary's Honors/Awards include
S.P.A.R.K.S. at St. Anselm's School, and High School Representative for
D.A.R.E. Program at Lindsay Elementary School. Mary plans on
attending either Ohio State University, Bowling Green University or
Kent State University, majoring in Occupational Therapy.
James Cizek
September, 2009.
James is in the 12th Grade and has had many
accomplishments.
James is an active member in Marching Band, the Tennis Team and Jazz
Band. James' Honors/Awards include the Yale Book Award, the
Regional
Art Award (Governor's Art Show), Solo & Ensemble Contest (Superior
3-yr. Rating), and Squad Leader of the Marching Band for 2 yrs.
James
plans on attending either Northwestern University of Ohio State
University, majoring in Architecture.
